Prevent Child Abuse Georgia is now the implementing agency for a national membership network to streamline standards and best practices around family support.
The Georgia Family Support Network leads an initiative to develop community-based family support and primary prevention services for all families across the state.
Previously housed within the Prevention and Community Support Section of the Division of Family and Children Services, GFSN is part of the National Family Support Network, now active in 39 states, serving more than 3,000 family resource centers.
In Georgia, there are 59 GFSN member organizations.
DFCS PCS Unit Manager Laura Griggs announced the transfer in organizational leadership at the GFSN Annual Meeting, held Sept. 13.
“We are very excited about good things to come,” Griggs said.
DFCS PCS will continue to be engaged with GFSN, including serving on the steering committee and funding a full-time coordinator for the program.
GFSN offers free training around nine guiding principles and the five protective factors embedded in the Strengthening Families framework.
“If you are bolstering, elevating the protective factors, you are preventing child abuse!” said PCA Georgia Executive Director Jennifer Stein. “What a great marriage to have these organizations come together.”
The transition takes place on Oct. 1.
